On Wednesday 14 August 2019 ten of our students joined 40 other students from schools around Queensland for a workshop organised by United Nations Association of Australia Queensland. The purpose of the workshop was to focus on two of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and for urgent action on Climate Change.
Students engaged in public dialogue around the issues of peace, justice and climate change by engaging in public presentations from experts on these issues. The students were then afforded the opportunity to engage with industry experts in the fields of film, graphic arts, game development and poetry writing to develop their own creative expressions on these fundamental global concerns.

At the end of the day students presented their own productions and were applauded by all for their creativity and excellence. In particular, Sadiya Ismail from Year 10 was recognised for her inspiring poem, “lost”, and was subsequently invited by Just Peace Australia to present her poem at the UN International Day of Peace Lecture.
The day was both eye-opening and inspiring, and the students came away with valuable insight into these vital global ideologies.
