Head of Special Education | Inclusive Education | Learning Support teacher

With a dynamic new leadership, and continuing growth in enrolments, we are seeking a Head of Inclusive Education / Special Education to lead our intensive education services.

The Role

The role of the Head of Inclusive Education / Special Education is to lead the team to identify, assess, support, monitor and evaluate students’ specific special learning needs, in collaboration with other members of the College community.

This position works across the campus and reports directly to the Principal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and intervene with students who have additional learning needs;
  • Develop clear referral pathways for students who have additional needs;
  • Apply knowledge of NCCD to capture and document educational support;
  • Write and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP’s);
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including ISQ, clinicians, teachers and parents to develop and verify Educational Adjustment Plans (EAP’s);
  • Work with teachers to improve inclusive classroom practices;
  • Contact and teaching time with students on an individual, class or small group basis;
  • Administer screening and diagnostic testing;
  • Writing reports;
  • Coordinating support staff.

The Role

These roles operate across the College under our Inclusive Education / Special Education department. The Special Education teacher primarily works with Secondary students, although some work in the Primary school can be expected. Learning Support Teacher Aides work with small groups of students who require additional support across the College.

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (for teaching positions);
  • Hold a relevant recognised degree with specialisation in Special Education or Learning Support;
  • Have experience working with students who have additional or complex learning needs;
  • Possess current knowledge of effective pedagogy;
  • Have a caring and response approach to children;
  • Be eager to work in partnership with colleagues, students and parents/carers in a professional learning community
  • Possess a passion and enthusiasm to enrich children’s learning
