Australian International Islamic college participated in the Multicultural Education Expo held on the 27th of August, 2016 at Griffith University (Nathan Campus). We cherished the opportunity to learn about the many ways in which Queensland schools, organizations and individuals are working towards building community cohesion through the medium of education. Our college Nasheed group did us proud by singing the National Anthem beautifully in this inaugural ceremony. Our college showcased how we incorporate multiculturalism at our college through the celebration and commemoration of Harmony Day, Anzac Day respectively and through various teaching and learning methods. The workshops provided by Dr. Susan Creagh and Dr. Brian Hoepper gave our college staff an insight of the new visions for multiculturalism and education as well as helped us to understand the new challenges that we face as educators of the 21st century. We identified that the challenges we face today is that of disaffection, alienation and radicalization among young people. The workshop also enlightened us with the best practice in creating social cohesion in Education and the Arts. We look forward to participate in many such events to come and join hands in creating a strong multicultural and social cohesion in the wider community through the powerful tool of education.
