Entrance Exams at AIIC

Welcome to the Australian International Islamic College (AIIC), where education is not just about academics but also about nurturing holistic development. One aspect of our admissions process that many parents inquire about is the Entrance Exam, which plays a pivotal role in shaping a student’s academic journey at AIIC.

Understanding the Entrance Exams

All students who enroll at AIIC will undergo either a Progressive Achievement Test (PAT) or an AGAT (Academic and General Abilities Test) as part of their Entrance Exam. These tests serve as valuable tools for assessing students’ academic readiness and general reasoning abilities.

For students enrolling in Year 2 to Year 12, it is mandatory to take either a PAT test or an AGAT test as part of their examination. These assessments help gauge their achievement levels and general reasoning skills, enabling us to tailor their educational experience effectively.

Kindy to Year 1 Enrollment

For our youngest learners, those enrolling in Kindergarten (Kindy) to Year 1, taking an exam is not mandatory. Instead, applicants in this age group may be interviewed by the head of the school, who will consider their application details carefully. We believe in nurturing a supportive and inclusive environment for our young learners, where we focus on their individual needs and development.

Understanding the Tests

Let’s delve deeper into the two types of tests used in our Entrance Exam:

1. Progressive Achievement Test (PAT)

The PAT is a multiple-choice exam that assesses students’ achievement levels in several key areas, including Mathematics, Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary, and Listening Comprehension. It provides valuable insights into their academic strengths and areas that may need improvement.

2. Academic and General Abilities Test (AGAT)

The AGAT test is an online multiple-choice assessment designed for students aged 7 to 16. It evaluates students’ general reasoning abilities in five key strands:

The ability to recognize patterns and logic in pictures and diagrams.

The capacity to anticipate outcomes from the movement of objects.

Proficiency in using numbers to solve a variety of multi-step problems.

The skill to visualize transformations of objects on a page.

The ability to understand how words connect to each other and their impact on sentence meaning.

Conducting the Tests

At AIIC, we utilize a combination of online and offline components for the test administration. The PAT test is taken on a laptop under supervision, ensuring a fair and controlled testing environment. On the other hand, the AGAT test may involve printed papers.

Students are provided with 45 minutes for the PAT test and 50 minutes for the AGAT test to complete their assessments.

Outcome Determination

The outcome of the student’s test will be based on their performance and results. Our dedicated Head of the school will review the results, typically within 1 to 5 days, although the processing time may vary depending on the school term.

Taking the Test

It’s important to note that students are required to physically come to the school campus to take the test. This ensures a secure and standardized testing experience for all applicants.

At AIIC, we believe in fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment that supports each student’s unique journey. Our Entrance Exams are designed to help us understand each student’s strengths and areas for growth, allowing us to provide the best possible educational experience tailored to their needs.
